We are both Latin and Greek scholars with interests in the history of science and manuscript studies.<\/p>\n<h2><b>Philipp Roelli<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>lic. phil. rer. nat., dr. habil. phil., https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-4963-0858<\/p>\n<p>I have spent most of my life studying science and scholarship. After graduating in microbiology, I started to learn the ancient languages, then studied them scientifically (philology and linguistics). I am now working mostly on topics related to the history of science and with Latin texts. Below a detailled CV.<\/p>\n<p>My doctoral thesis was a first edition of a 13th-century anthology of the Church Fathers, published in <i>CCSG<\/i> as vol. 72 (2010). A German translation of this text followed in <i>Corpus Christianorum in Translation<\/i> in 2013. I habilitated in 2021 with a study on <i>Latin as the Lanugae of Science and Learning<\/i> in which I tried to apply corpus linguistic methods to differentiate various types of scholarly Latin prose. The book also contains a historical panorama of Latin science and learning from the beginnings to the end of its use in this function in the 18th\/19th centuries.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, since 2010 I have been researching mathematical methods for the classification of manuscripts. I have edited two fifteenth-century treatises: Lambertus de Monte, <i>De salvatione Aristotelis<\/i> (Winter Verlag, Heidelberg), and, together with Prof. Peter Stotz, <i>De cometis<\/i> by the Zurich scholar Eberhard Schleusinger, dated c. 1472. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zora.uzh.ch\/entities\/publication\/cd5e226f-df05-4392-a3a6-bc94a43bfd4d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Online version<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Together with Jan Ctibor (University of Prague), I am developing the open, linguistically usable Latin online text collection <a href=\"https:\/\/mlat.uzh.ch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CORPUS CORPORUM<\/a>. We can easily add freely available texts formatted in TEI XML this database. It allows them to be searched and studied online in a comprehensive manner. This project was funded by COST (Action IS1005) in collaboration with the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (Grant C12.0053).
